Education as an Investment

Education is the investment with the longest lever. What we fail to do in Leipzig's schools today, we won't be able to make up for in the job market ten years from now.

Systematically clearing the maintenance backlog. Leipzig's schools suffer from decades of deferred investment — leaking roofs, broken heating, bathrooms from the 1980s. In my first 100 days, I'll draw up a priority list with clear renovation windows. An annual progress report, public for everyone to see. Parents should be able to see when their school's turn is coming.

Completing digital equipment by 2028. DigitalPakt 2.0 has been open since September 2026 — Leipzig needs to be at the front from day one instead of playing catch-up. By 2028, every Leipzig school will have working Wi-Fi, every classroom digital devices, every teacher a modern work device. Coordinated with the State of Saxony, financed through DigitalPakt and EU funds.

Teachers and vocational schools — targeted at shortage subjects and growth industries. In cooperation with the State of Saxony, I'll create additional teaching positions in shortage subjects and use municipal properties to help teachers relocate to Leipzig. Vocational schools will be targeted specifically at the skills needs of growth industries — IT, care work, skilled trades, medical technology.

Education as economic policy. Anyone having children in Leipzig should know: this city takes education seriously. Anyone moving to Leipzig should find: good schools are here for my family. Education isn't just social and family policy — it's the economic policy of the next generation.
